Laura Lee “Lee” Cramer, aged 85-years old, passed away peacefully on Good Friday, March 30, 2018 in her home in DeBordieu Colony, Georgetown, South Carolina, surrounded by her family and adoring husband of 62 years. Born on July 28, 1932 in Columbus, Ohio, Lee was the daughter of Jennie Lynn and E.S. Wheeler. Lee was the valedictorian and President of her 1950 graduating class at the Grier School in Tyrone, PA. She attended the Pennsylvania State University where she majored in journalism, graduating with honors. Lee was a sister and rushing chairman of the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority and a member of the Phi Kappa Phi Honors Society, additionally receiving scholarships and notoriety from the Sigma Delta Phi National Professional Journalistic Fraternity and Theta Sigma Phi National Women’s Journalism Honorary Fraternity. She was also a member of the P.E.O. Sisterhood for over 65 years.During her life, Lee was employed at the Lancaster New Era Newspaper, U.S. Steel, Goodwill Industries, and Duquesne University. She has lived in Langeloth, PA; Mt. Lebanon, PA; Pisgah Forest, NC; and DeBordieu Colony, SC. In each community, Lee took an active role in community welfare and engagement, often holding officer positions in local organizations. In her earlier years, Lee played field hockey, rode horses, and went skiing. Later in life, Lee and Wilson traveled overseas, visiting Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong, and the British Isles. Lee loved the beach and the mountains, but most of all, she loved being surrounded by her family. Lee leaves behind her beloved husband Wilson B. Cramer, married on September 22, 1956; children, Peter W. Cramer, Stephen T. Cramer, Lynnea Cramer-Mallalieu, and Julie L. Cramer; six grandchildren, and one great-granddaughter. We will miss her dearly. Friends will be received at Laughlin Cremation & Funeral Tributes, 222 Washington Road Mt. Lebanon on Friday from 11 AM until time of Memorial Service at 11:30 AM.
