Leonard ‘Len’ Less was born in Pittsburgh on January 2, 1954 to the late Joseph and Marian Less, the second of eight children, passed from this world on Friday August 25, 2023. Len grew up in Castle Shannon and graduated from Bethel Park High School in 1972. He maintained a number of friendships over his lifetime with friends from school, including Tim Kelly and Guy Kirby. He spent most of his career as a letter carrier in the Pittsburgh area for the U.S. Postal Service retiring from the USPS in 2014 after 34 years of service. During the last several years of his life, he enjoyed regular luncheon meetings with fellow postal retirees, Dale Weber and Dave Summers.
As an athletic person, Len especially liked to play softball and tennis. One of his fondest memories included hoisting the Postal Service Championship trophy for his winning softball team. His lifelong hero, Roberto Clemente, inspired Len with his excellence in baseball and as a humanitarian. Len supported many charities some of which were St. Jude Children’s Hospital, Native Americans, the anti-abortion movement as a sidewalk advocate, and, with his soft heart for animals, especially his cats, the ASPCA, any of which memorial contributions may be made in Len's name. Among his hobbies, Len had a lifelong love of music. With his pinpoint memory, he liked quizzing people on their knowledge of music genres, sports and TV (westerns and Blue Bloods) trivia. In his younger days, Len traveled the U.S. in his van. Later, he flew to the Philippines for his wedding.
Len is survived by his wife, Analyn, his seven siblings: Larry (Sally) Less; Diane Blackwell (Larry Guros); Dave (Karen) Less; Wayne (Colleen Campbell) Less; Kathy (George) McWhorter; Sherry (Bob) Fuller; and Joanne (Randy) Taylor. Also, Uncle Ray (Jean) Hoffman, his Mom’s last surviving sibling, and by many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends will be received at Laughlin Cremation & Funeral Tributes, 222 Washington Road Mt. Lebanon, on Monday September 4 from 2-4 PM and on Tuesday September 5 from 10:00 AM until time of service at 11:00 AM.
