Lucio “Looch” Santella, age 59 of Mt. Lebanon passed away unexpectedly on May 21, after complications from heart surgery, born in Germany, lived in Italy until the age of 7 when he immigrated to Bloomfield, PA.
Beloved husband of 27 years to Lucy (Loy) and cherished father of Lucio and Dante, adored son of Maria (late Nello), loving older brother of Gianni (former spouse, Barbara) and Anna (Brian) Frey, caring brother-in-law of Jeanne (Brown) and Nancy (Loy). The greatest uncle to Jamie (John) King, Madison and Avery Santella, Brianna and Gabriella Frey, and the best great uncle to Iris King. He will be remembered as a treasured cousin to a large Italian family. He will be dearly missed by lifelong friends (Nick DeCarlo, Mike Berlinsky, George Peponidis, and Chuck Scharbo), and many others including those in our wedding, those he shared his passion playing basketball with, all his friends from “Pittsburgh’s Little Italy” (Bloomfield) and anyone else he touched though his career in occupational therapy. He will fondly be remembered as brother-in-law to Ken (Joanne) Loy, Marianne (Harry) Neel, Claudia (Paul) Ziegler, Tim and the late Gerard Loy and uncle to his numerous loving nieces and nephews.
Those who played basketball with him will always remember his patented left-handed scoop to the hoop. Lucio’s greatest strength was his compassion for others. He was very charming and could turn anyone he talked to into his friend. Lucio had so much love, laughter, and happiness towards his dearest friends, family, loving wife and amazing sons.
Friends will be welcomed at Laughlin Cremation & Funeral Tributes 222 Washington Road Mt. Lebanon on Tuesday and Wednesday from 2 - 4pm and 6 - 8pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held in St. Winifred Catholic Church on Friday morning at 10am. EVERYONE PLEASE MEET AT CHURCH. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Best Buddies, Pittsburgh. https://www.bestbuddies.org/pennsylvania/
