In Loving Memory of Mafalda Fontana:
We mourn the passing of our remarkably strong Mother, Muffy, Grandma, and Nuna, who lived a long and fulfilling life of 101 years. She peacefully left us on Friday, July 28, 2023 from natural causes, surrounded by the love of her family.
She was a devoted wife to Michael, a loving mother to Dolores (Stanley), Nina, and Jack (Sharon), a doting grandmother to Eric (Susan), Lisa (Mark), Marcus (Melissa), Alex (Roxanne), Michael (Alexis), and Richard, a great-grandmother to Alex, Amanda, Erika, Mason, Ella, Olivia, and Maxine, and great-great-grandmother to Aubriana, Antonio, and Camila, as well as a caring and trusted friend to many. Her legacy will live on through the lives she touched and the values she instilled in those around her.
Muffy's house was filled with love and laughter as her doors were always open. She welcomed family and friends with delicious home-cooked Italian meals or for a cup of coffee and a slice of cake. Around her table, her words of encouragement, support, and advice brought comfort and joy to all.
Muffy had a passion for storytelling through over a century’s worth of captivating tales. She immigrated to the United States from Italy as young girl, worked hard through the great depression, raised a beautiful family, survived multiple pandemics, and endured all the trials and tribulations in between. As a beacon of wisdom, she taught important life lessons of gratitude, resilience, and the value of hard work. Muffy enlightened us by example and made our lives more fulfilled. For this, we are eternally grateful.
Muffy was a pillar of strength, fiercely loyal, extraordinarily generous, and the greatest protector of her family. She also never missed an opportunity to express how deeply she loved those around her and flourished in their happiness and successes. Her presence every day, but especially at family gatherings, holidays, and celebrations will be deeply missed. We hold her memory close, and she will forever live in our hearts.
As we say goodbye to Muffy, we take solace in knowing that her soul will rest in eternal peace, and that she will be reunited with those loved ones who left before her, especially her beloved husband and son. May we all find strength in the beautiful legacy she leaves behind.
Family and friends are invited to join us as we bid farewell to our dear Muffy at St. Michael the Archangel Parish/St. Bernard Church on Friday, August 4, 2023 at 10:00am ET.
With heartfelt gratitude for the blessed time we shared with her,
The Fontana, Gritz, and Schaefer Family
