age 76, of Mt. Lebanon, passed away peacefully in hospice care at home in Mt. Lebanon with loved ones by her side, on Sunday, October 29, 2023. Born in Hazleton, PA, a daughter of the late James and Gertrude (Ferry) Munley, she was known as Peg to friends and family. She graduated from Penn State University with a degree in art education. When at college, she met Howard M. Alex, the man she would marry and live with for many joyful years. Peg worked as a dedicated art teacher for three decades, primarily at Knoxville Middle School in Pittsburgh. She was an avid reader, especially of Agatha Christie mysteries involving the exploits of a Belgian detective. She loved gardening and her two irascible terriers. Peg had many friends, both in Pittsburgh and at Chautauqua Institution in New York where she spent her summers. She particularly enjoyed participating in the Chautauqua short story classes. Most dearly and deeply she loved her family; her beloved husband of 49 years, Howard; devoted mother of David (Leah) Alex, Christopher (Whitney) Alex and Bridget Alex (Siavash); loving grandmother of Acadia, Kyle, Wallis, Archer and Desmond; sister of Catherine Bielen and James Munley; also survived by many nieces and nephews. Friends will be welcomed at Laughlin Cremation & Funeral Tributes, 222 Washington Road, Mount Lebanon on Saturday afternoon, November 11 from 2:00 until 4:00 o’clock with a brief Liturgical Service at 3:30. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, if desired, memorials may be made to the Mt. Lebanon Public Library in memory of Peg.
