Marilyn W. Holstead

Age, 89 of Friendship Village in Upper St. Clair, formerly of McMurray, PA, peacefully passed on Saturday, May 21, 2022. Daughter of the late John R. Walker and Frances (Jones) Walker; beloved wife for 50 years of the late Robert F. Holstead III; mother of Christy Holstead Semple (Richard), Carrie S. Holstead, Robert W. Holstead (Luz), and Patrick Holstead; grandmother of Samuel Patrick Holstead and Rosalie Singer Semple; and beloved aunt to John Walker (Diane), Nancy Walker Moore (Daniel), and Keith Daum (Jeanetta). She is survived by her brother Col. Robert Walker, USAF, Retired (Lou) and was preceded in death by her sister Joan Daum and nephew Craig Daum. Marilyn was a graduate of Mt. Lebanon High School (1950), and attended Transylvania University in Lexington, KY where she received a B.A. (1954), was a member of Chi Omega sorority and was crowned the “Crimson Beauty”. She was a member of Southminster Presbyterian Church. Marilyn was known for her devotion to her family, friends and to many committees and causes at Friendship Village, including as the monthly fundraising coordinator for the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank, past president of the Employee Appreciation Fund, and a host of other committees.  Outside Friendship Village, she was a dedicated member and past president of PEO, a philanthropic and educational organization for women. She loved the symphony, movies, golf and most of all, family and friends, and was beloved by all who met her. A private funeral will be held at Laughlin Funeral Home. A Memorial service will be held at Friendship Village on Saturday, June 18, 2022 at 2:00 PM. Contributions may be sent to the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank at 1 N. Linden St., Duquesne, PA 15110, or the Employee Appreciation Fund at Friendship Village of South Hills at 1290 Boyce Rd., Upper St. Clair, PA 15241.
