Mary Joan Coyne, wife of the late Patrick P. Coyne, mother of Tami M Coyne (NYC), Teri M Coyne (NYC), Patrick P Coyne II (Phila) and Shawn Coyne (Great Barrington MA), daughter of the late Thaddeus and Rose Hayden of Mt. Lebanon, sister of the late Rosemary Hayden and grandmother to Sara Coyne, Sophia Scorcia, Caroline Coyne, and Emily Coyne and beloved partner of James Kearns, passed away quietly and peacefully Wednesday morning. Mary Jo was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother to her family and the Kearns family, all of whom she adored. A retired music teacher from the Mt. Lebanon school district, Mary Jo was passionate about the importance of music in children’s lives as a means of expression and an important piece in cognitive development. A lover of people and a generous soul, Mary Jo was the light in the room, friendly to all and interested in everyone’s personal stories. Superfan of the Pittsburgh Steelers, Penguins and Pirates and an avid supporter of the Mt. Lebanon and Central Catholic sports programs, Mary Jo liked to compete, as her words with friends’ opponents can attest. A dedicated democrat and lover of this country, Mary Jo preached about compassion and understanding as a means of bettering this world. Friends are welcome to visit this Friday April 16, at the Laughlin Cremation & Funeral Tributes 222 Washington Road, Mt. Lebanon from 2 till 7 pm. A private memorial service will be on Saturday.
