Mary Ann Evans Obituary

Mary Ann Evans (née Hogsett), age 88, of Mount Lebanon, Pennsylvania, on Sunday, August 8, 2021. Beloved wife of the late Edward (Ned) William Evans for over 56 years. Loving mother of Carlyn K Evans (Glenn Golden), Gary C Evans (Sally), and Laura L Booth (Andrew). Grandmother of Zachary Evans-Golden, Curtis Evans, Melissa Evans, Samuel Evans-Golden, Michael Evans, Samantha Booth (James Ritz), Juliana Booth, and Grace Evans-Golden.  She was dearly loved by her family, friends, and all who knew her.  Mary Ann will be forever missed.  She was strong in her faith in God all her life.

Mary Ann graduated from Mount Lebanon High School and from Margaret Morrison Carnegie School for Women, where she met Ned, the love of her life, while he was attending Carnegie Tech.  They were married after she graduated from college and when he returned from Army service in Korea.  She was active in the Girl Scouts for many years and in the Mount Lebanon High School Band Builders for nearly 10 years.  She volunteered at Asbury Heights and St. Clair Hospital.

Mary Ann was an avid bridge player and took up pinochle after moving to Asbury Heights and growing tired of crushing the competition at bridge.  She was an eager participant in extreme, full-contact bingo with her family at holidays and always provided the most delicious deviled eggs for those events.  In fact, she loved holidays and was always the heart of family gatherings.  She made the world’s best chocolate chip cookies and gave or mailed them to her friends and family around the country.  Although she willingly (and repeatedly) shared her recipe for potato salad, to this day, her children have never quite mastered it up to the standards she set, although they have successfully made spaghetti sauce and chili using her recipes.  Mary Ann had a big heart and loving energy that she shared with everyone she met and tried to make everyone feel comfortable and welcome.  She provided a loving and safe home for many animals, and passed that love of animals onto her family.

Contributions in her name may be sent to the JDRF Western PA chapter or online at www.jdrf.org/memorial, or to the Humane Animal Rescue of Pittsburgh (www.humaneanimalrescue.org).  A memorial service will be scheduled at a later time.
