Nancy lived her entire life in Mount Lebanon, graduating from Mt. Lebanon High School in 1944 and Western Reserve University in 1948. After graduation she entered the work force with Mellon Bank in downtown Pittsburgh—arranging executive travel and logistics. She would need this skill set when she met a handsome, young attorney by the water cooler, ultimately married him on December 16, 1950, and set off on the adventure of a lifetime together. She enthusiastically embraced the role of helpmate to her husband and mother to her four children. As a young mother, she returned to school to get a Masters of Education from the University of Pittsburgh. She worked as a short and long-term substitute for the Mt Lebanon School District. In later years, she worked alongside her husband as the office manager of the law firm, Bucey and Junker.
Nancy loved to travel and took her family on expertly planned camping trips across the continent. She brought the world to her family by welcoming international guests into her home through Pittsburgh Council for International Visitors (PCIV). Long-term guests arrived from over a dozen countries to be shown the best of Pittsburgh and the best of American culture. Many of these guests remained lifelong friends. Nancy and Wiley also were instrumental in caring for numerous individuals who needed an extra lift in life and these individuals became like family too.
Her Christian faith was the cornerstone of Nancy’s life. She was a lifelong member of the Mount Lebanon Evangelical Church serving in many capacities from Elder to handbell ringer to church bus driver. She mentored and encouraged many in the church and was a Christ-like example to her family and friends.
She will be remembered for her colorful outfits, homemade Christmas cards, her Perseids watch parties, her homemade applesauce, and her perfect smile.
A memorial service in celebration of her life will be held at Mt Lebanon Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Mt Lebanon at 2 pm on Sunday August 20 with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Mt Lebanon Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Bucey Memorial Fund, 255 Washington Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15216.
