Paul A. Beck, 87 years, passed away peacefully on February 28, 2024. Beloved husband of the late Nancy Flaherty Beck. Father of Jennifer Beck Foley (John), Brad Beck (Jamie), and Mike Beck (Brooke). Grandfather of Kayla, Ford, Owen, Evan, Cole, and Caleesi. Survived by former wife, Carol Beck Day. Paul was delighted with the additions of the Flahertys: Shawn, Peter, Brian, Maggie Gurtner (Steve) and Gregory (Shannon); and their children: Linda, Casey, Patrick, Kara, the late Peter IV, Jack, Dan, Sabrina, Ike, Piper, Vaughan and great-grandchildren Leon and Lawson.
Born on August 16, 1936, to the late August and Agnes Beck, Paul grew up in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, with his two sisters, the late Mary Eileen Pabst and the late Jean Hofreuter. He attended Central Catholic High School before going on to study electrical engineering at Carnegie Tech (now Carnegie Mellon University). After college, Paul taught engineering as a Captain in the U.S. Army Signal Corps. Afterwards, he studied law at Duquesne University with a concentration in patent law. Paul had a long and successful law practice, including founding Beck & Thomas LLC, which became one of Pittsburgh’s leading intellectual property law firms. Paul was honored to be selected by a national group of peers as one of the Best Lawyers in the United States for intellectual property law.
A long-time Mt. Lebanon resident, Paul enjoyed playing golf, handball, tennis, and rooting for the Steelers. Most of all, he savored time spent with his wife, Nancy, his children, and grandchildren. He was known for his integrity, kindness, and quick wit.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at Saint Bernard Church (St. Michael The Archangel Parish) on March 16 at 10AM with interment at Queen of Heaven Cemetery. A luncheon celebration will immediately follow interment. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Extra Mile Education Foundation.
