Ralph D. Brown

Ralph D. Brown, 95, of Mt. Lebanon, known as “Dutch” to many family and friends, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 27, 2023. Born January 30, 1928, in Slippery Rock, PA to parents Harriett A. and Thomas L. Brown.  He was preceded in death by an only brother, Russell J. Brown.  Ralph is survived by his former wife, Betty, daughter Amy, son David (Cynthia) and grandson Taylor.  He was also preceded in death by his first wife Helen Marie, and most recent partner and love Marie Hlasnick. After graduating from high school in 1945, he enlisted in the Army under the Army Specialized Training Reserve Program and attended Virginia Polytechnic Institute.  He served in the Army both in the States and overseas in Korea until his discharge in 1947.  He graduated from Slippery Rock State Teachers College in 1951.  After a short teaching career, he was employed by Universal C.I.T. Credit Corporation, General Acceptance Corporation, and Mellon Bank, N.A., until his retirement in 1985.  He was a lifelong United Methodist and sang in several church choirs beginning when he was 16 years of age.  His last choir was the Chancel Choir of the Mount Lebanon United Methodist Church. He was a long time member of Grove City Lodge #603 F. & A.M., New Castle Consistory, Syria Temple, and American Legion Post #156, Mount Lebanon, PA. The family would like to thank the Hlasnick family for their many years of love and devotion, and family and friends who visited him and helped him to enjoy his last years.  A most special thank you to Diane at Asbury Heights, and Stacey with Family Hospice for their exceptional care in his final months. A memorial service will be held Saturday, November 18, 2023, at the Mount Lebanon United Methodist Church, 3319 West Liberty Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15216 at 11:00 AM with a reception immediately following at the church. In lieu of flowers and for his love of music, memorial gifts may be made in his name to the Friends of Music, Mount Lebanon United Methodist Church, 3319 West Liberty Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15216.
