Richard “Dick” Anderson, of Mt. Lebanon, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on Monday, March 23, 2026, at the age of 88.
Born on January 30, 1938, in Pittsburgh, Dick was the son of the late Russell and Rose Belle Anderson. In 1961, he married Sally (Poland) Anderson, and together they built a life anchored in family and community. Dick was the proud father of Robert M. (Leonard Codispot Anderson), William D., Paul J. (Christi), and Karl (Rachel) Anderson, and grandfather to Hayley, Emma, Meghan, Olivia, and Jacob Anderson. He was predeceased by his siblings James Anderson and Joan Belle Waz.
In 1961–62, Dick served in the Army Reserve and was called to duty during the Bay of Pigs invasion. He spent many years working as a crane operator for Jones & Laughlin Steel, dedicating long hours to provide his family with a wonderful neighborhood and the best education. Dick was a complex person—serious yet funny, determined but easygoing, reserved yet never afraid to express his opinions. He was a great role model.
Gifted with sharp mechanical abilities, Dick could fix almost anything and enjoyed weekend projects in his garage and around the house. He often joked about his love for “see food,” delighting family and friends with his favorite quip. Dick cherished family gatherings and passed along practical wisdom and a strong work ethic to his children and grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Friday, March 27, from 10:00 AM until the time of the Blessing Service at 12:00 PM at Laughlin Cremation & Funeral Tributes, 222 Washington Rd, Pittsburgh, PA 15216. Interment will follow in Resurrection Catholic Cemetery.
