Rosemary L. (Paulssen) Sparvero

January 20, 1937 ~ August 25, 2022 (age 85)

Obituary

Age 85, of Dormont, passed peacefully with family by her side on August 25, 2022. Loving and well-matched wife of 63 years to John P. Sparvero Sr.; much loved mother to Carol Matt (Dan), John Sparvero, Jr (Gina), Dan Sparvero (Liz), Mary Lynn Gahr, and Kathy Downing (Bruce); and Mamie extraordinaire to Dan & Leah Matt & great grandson Teddy, Elyse & Sean Wolff & a soon-to-be new great grandson, Colton & Logan Sparvero, Katie Sparvero, and Brock & Brenna Downing.  She is survived by her sister and best friend Patricia (Aunt Dee Dee) Pierce. She is predeceased by her youngest sister Lolly Stoler and her 2nd most favorite son-in-law JJ Gahr.

Family and friends will be received at Laughlin Cremation & Funeral Tributes 222 Washington Road, Mt. Lebanon, on Wednesday from 2:00 until 7:00 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered in St. Bernard Church, St. Michael the Archangel Parish, on Thursday at 10:00 AM.

Her husband John said, “she was the backbone of the family.” On first impression she had a stoic manner, but underneath there could not be a more honest, fair, loving, and caring person. Rose had a wry sense of humor to the end. These characteristics will be sorely missed but forever remembered. Rose & John loved hanging at the lake and traveling to Florida. She had a selfless commitment to service and volunteerism with Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, PTA, sports, band and most recently Ohio Valley General Hospital and AARP, where she received the “Outstanding Member” award for her chapter.

Rose was a dedicated nurse for multiple decades, married a teacher/basketball coach who moved her from Toledo, OH to Pittsburgh where they raised a team of their own.  She was an amazing cook, avid reader and loved to crochet.

Rose/Mom/Mamie dearly valued the importance of faith, love, family, and friendship. Rose left with no regrets…”A life well lived.”  The family believes Rose is in Heaven watching over all of us, while reading a book and crocheting lap robes for new arrivals. Please remember Rose’s spirit, honesty and love for family and friends so it can live on forever.
