Susan Hnath Obituary

Susan Isherwood Hnath, a long-time resident of Mt. Lebanon, with a few short stints in Saybrook, OH, and Carnegie, died Wednesday November 17, 2021, at St. Clair Hospital, surrounded by her children.  Sue was born at St. Francis Hospital on December 28, 1938, and was raised in the Oakland area of Pittsburgh, where her family attended St. Paul Cathedral. She graduated from St. Paul Cathedral High School in 1956, and attended both Carlow and Chatham Colleges. On April 25, 1959, she married Joseph Hnath, Jr., at St. Paul Cathedral. They had five children. After being a stay-at-home mom for many years, Sue had a successful career managing wallpaper, paint and decorating stores in the South Hills.  She was a wonderful mother. Sue was preceded in death by her son, Mark Joseph, her parents, John and Marian Isherwood, her siblings, Jack Isherwood, William Isherwood, Tommy Isherwood, and Marianne Tessaro. She is survived by her husband Joe, residing at Asbury Place in Mt. Lebanon, her sons, Jeffrey (Lisa) Hnath of Murrysville, John (Alane) Hnath of Mt. Lebanon, and Mike (Lori) Hnath of Mars, PA, her daughter, Kathy (Tom) Overy of Colorado Springs, and her grandchildren, Joseph Vincent and Jacob Hnath, Ashley (Dale) Dexter, Abigail Hnath, Andrea (Dan) Shearer, Jared Hnath and Jack Hnath, Annabel and Spencer Hnath, and Daniel, Sarah, and Rachael Amoroso.  In addition, she is survived by her great granddaughters Lucia and Nina Dexter, by nieces Pam (Chuck) Isherwood, Marcie (Bob) Patillo, and Suzy (Pierre) Berardinelli, and by nephews, John, Bill and Tom Tessaro. Next to her family, Sue’s greatest joys were gardening, reading books, and playing cards with life-long friends. Her family would like to thank all the physicians, nurses and other staff members at St. Clair Hospital for the care they provided to Sue and Joe over the years, and for that provided to their daughters-in-law and six of their grandchildren who were born there!  There will be no visitation.   Mass of Christian Burial  will be offered in St. Bernard Church (St. Paul of The Cross Parish) in Mt. Lebanon on Monday, November 22, 2021, at 10:00 a.m.  All are invited to attend a lunch reception to follow at Carbonara Ristorante, 250 Mt. Lebanon Blvd.  Memorial Contributions may be made to the Mt. Lebanon Public Library Garden Tour, 16 Castle Shannon Blvd., Pittsburgh, PA, 15228-2252. www.laughlinfuneralhome.com.
