Age 91, of Castle Shannon, surrounded by her loving family, on Friday, July 21, 2023. Beloved wife for 68 years of John F. Goldaine, devoted mother of John (Catherine) Goldaine. Daughter of the late P.A. and Mary (Andiorio) Verzella; sister of the late Ann I. Ridge and Marino Verzella. Adoring grandmother of Jonathan (Stephanie) Goldaine and Christina (Michael) Chiodo. Devoted great-grandmother of Gabriella Jean Goldaine, Emilia Marie Goldaine, and Michael John Chiodo. Also loved by many nieces, nephews, and members of the Andiorio and Verzella families, including Marino Verzella and Maria Verzella of Montella, Avellino, Italy, her father’s birthplace.
Virginia graduated from South Hills High School with her Grade School Sweetheart, John, and were wed in June of 1955. Virginia was an avid gardener with an ever-present green thumb. Always an entertainer and cook, Virginia warmly welcomed many into her home. Her family will fondly remember the countless holidays spent together, especially Christmas Eve celebrations and sleepovers. An animal lover, Virginia would keep dog biscuits on hand to sneak treats to all of her favorite four-legged friends.
Ever devoted to her faith, Virginia volunteered in multiple ways through the years at her parish and St. Anne’s School. She was a member of her choir, and occupied her reserved pew in church every Sunday with her husband. Family vacations were regularly scheduled around St. Anne’s Novena so she could join in prayers at her parish.
A devoted grandmother, Virginia retired early to spend time with her cherished grandchildren and formed unbreakable bonds and countless memories. Virginia was very proud of her promotion from Grandma to Gigi, and spent quality time with her great-grandchildren at every opportunity.
A prolific baker, Virginia was well-known for her cookies. At both of her grandchildren’s weddings, guests snuck cookies before the meals were served. She poured love into thousands upon thousands of cookies and baked goods. Despite her petite shoe size, she leaves behind big shoes to fill with baking expertise.
Special thanks to the staff of Gallagher Hospice for their compassionate care they provided to Virginia, especially Amy, Bernie, Amanda, and Beth. The family also wants to extend their gratitude to the community of Saint Anne Church for all that they did for Virginia and John.
To celebrate her life, Virginia requested family and friends to celebrate in color if possible.
