Virginia Jones Obituary

Virginia M. Jones of Bridgeville, formerly of Washington, died on May 18, 2021.  She was born on November 3, 1927 in the Crafton Heights section of Pittsburgh to William G. McMorran, Sr. and Helen Hill McMorran.  After graduating from Langley High School in 1945, Ginny and her identical twin sister Margaret received their R.N. degrees from the Western Pennsylvania Hospital School of Nursing in 1948.  Several years later, she caught the attention of a seminary student who was assigned to her home church, and on May 24, 1952 she married Reverend Raymond F. Jones.  After a call at West Side United Presbyterian Church in Monmouth, Illinois, Ginny and Ray moved to Washington, PA, in 1956, where they faithfully served Second (later Faith) United Presbyterian Church until 1986.  Although Ginny gave up a career in nursing to serve the church and raise a family, she continued to work as a private duty nurse periodically.  Following retirement, Ginny and Ray settled in Upper St. Clair, where Ray served as an interim pastor at several churches in the area.

In addition to leadership in the church, Ginny was active in many organizations including the YWCA,  Y-Me, a breast cancer support group, and the Langley High School Alumni Association.  She volunteered at West Penn Hospital well into her eighties.  She also enjoyed making crafts and ceramics in her spare time for local craft shows.   During the last three years of her life, she thrived at Vanadium Woods Village in Bridgeville where she made many friends.

Ginny was preceded in death by her husband, Reverend Raymond F. Jones; her sister, Margaret McMorran Tranter; and her brother, William G. McMorran, Jr.  She is survived by her children, Cary (Kristen) Jones of Washington, Carol Jones Noonan of Mt. Lebanon, and David (Mary) Jones of Laramie, Wyoming.  She also leaves her sister-in-law, Leah May McMorran, and her grandchildren William Noonan, Bridget (Patrick) Noonan Leone, and Marie Noonan of Pittsburgh, Kathryn Jones of Laramie, WY, and Elijah and Gryffyn Jones of Washington, PA, and her great granddaughter Greer Leone.  Her grandchildren were her pride and joy, and she loved them dearly.  She also leaves several adoring nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the nursing staff of Unit 5G at St. Clair Hospital, and the hospice staff from Gallagher Hospice for the wonderful care and comfort they provided.
