William J. Boyd III, age 87, went to be with our Lord on June 17, 2025, just eleven days after the passing of his beloved wife, Carol Lee Boyd.
Bill attended Westinghouse High School, where he was a standout athlete and was honored as an All-City basketball player in 1960. He continued his education at the University of Pittsburgh, earning his degree in 1967, after which he went on to serve four years in the United States Navy.
He met Carol Lee in 1963 while they were both employed at U.S. Steel. Following a five-year whirlwind courtship, they married in 1968. In 1975, they welcomed their daughter Shelley Lee through adoption—a true miracle. Three years later, they were blessed again with the birth of their son, William John.
Professionally, Bill built a successful career as a bond broker, concluding his time in the financial industry with PNC in 2002.
Bill was a devoted member of Mt. Lebanon Evangelical Presbyterian Church for over 50 years, where he served faithfully as an elder and occasionally taught in the “Helpmates” Sunday School class—something he truly enjoyed.
In retirement, Bill found joy in tending to his garden and cheering on the sports teams he had followed his entire life.
He is preceded in death by his cherished wife of nearly 60 years, Carol Lee Boyd. He is survived by his beloved daughter Shelley Lee; his beloved son William John; his beloved grandson Bryce William; his sister Ruth Paxton; and his niece and nephew, Susan and Timothy.
Friends received on Tuesday, June 24th from 10am until the time of the service at noon in Laughlin Cremation & Funeral Tributes, 222 Washington Rd. Pittsburgh, PA 15216. Interment to follow in Jefferson Memorial Park.
