William D. Phelps

William (Bill/Bud) D. Phelps , age 69,  died Tuesday May  24, 2022  of  a  fast  moving form  of  ALS. He was  born in  Detroit MI, and grew up in Livonia, MI. Graduating from  Franklin  High School  in 1971. He received his  BS in  Foods and Nutrition from Madonna University,  and his MSW  from Wayne State.   He spent his life serving others, especially children  and  youth.  He was an  active Episcopalian singing tenor in various choirs, and  a leader  of  youth groups.  He  enjoyed  traveling with his  family  visiting many special  places domestic and foreign.  Bill  was an avid  music collector memorizing volumes  of  works and artists all of whom  were in his  personal  library. Most of all Bill deeply loved his  family.   He is survived by his wife  The  Reverend  Catherine  Munz,  Sons  Clifton (Alicia), and  Devon,  and  grandchildren Addison 11, and Brooke 7, His sister Mary (Jim) Fellows, and Brother Daniel (Julie), his older sister Patricia  pre-deceased  him.  Bill and his family  moved from Detroit to New York City, to  Royal Oak MI, Pittsburgh PA, Northampton MA, and 3 years ago  back to  Pittsburgh. The family will receive friends at St. Paul's Episcopal Church 1066 Washington Road Mt. Lebanon, on Friday June 3, 2022 from 3-5 & 6-8 PM. Services will be held in the church on Saturday at 10:00 AM.  In lieu  of flowers  donations  may be  made  to  the  family  who will distribute funds  to  some of his  favorite charities.
