Age 81, of Pittsburgh, passed away peacefully on September 14, 2025, with his family by his side. Son of the late William and Louise; beloved husband to Gail (Lago) Friedman for 53 years; loving father to Erica Friedman (Jim) Coburn; devoted grandfather to two grandchildren; and dear brother to Jacqueline (Charles) Lashinsky and Alan (Linda) Friedman.
Bill was a kind and thoughtful soul, impressively organized and had a brilliant mind. When he wasn’t pursuing professional interests or spending time with his family, being of service to the community was a priority for him and something he passed along to his daughter. His community involvement included Mt. Lebanon Parking Authority and the Carrick Business Association. He read the entire newspaper every day and often shared articles of interest with those he loved. Bill also enjoyed being surrounded by his grandchildren, following the Pittsburgh sports teams and soaking up the sunshine.
Bill was proud to be born and raised in Pittsburgh. He graduated from South Catholic High School and the Franciscan University of Steubenville. He earned his Master of Public Administration from the University of Pittsburgh’s Graduate School of Public and International Affairs and went on to earn his JD from the Duquesne University School of Law. He served as the Editor of the Duquesne Law Alumni Newsletter and sat on the Law Alumni Association Board.
Bill began his professional career with the Housing Authority of the City of Pittsburgh. From there, he transitioned to a legal career. Bill was engaged in private law practice, a former Disciplinary Counsel with the Office of Disciplinary Council in Pittsburgh, and an arbitrator for the Court of Common Pleas of Allegheny County. He was an active member of the Pennsylvania and Allegheny County Bar Associations. His involvement with the Allegheny County Bar Association included Editor of the Sole and Small Firm Section Newsletter and serving on its Council and as Chair. Additionally, he wrote a wide range of articles for the Allegheny County Bar Association’s Lawyers Journal and Pittsburgh Legal Journal, and he regularly spoke at Continuing Legal Education programs including the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania’s Bridge-the-Gap program.
Family and friends will gather on Saturday, October 11th at 1:00 p.m., until the time of the prayer service at 2:00 p.m., at Laughlin Cremation and Funeral Tributes, 1008 Castle Shannon Boulevard, Pittsburgh, PA 15234. Interment will be private to the family.
