Anthony J. Ward

Age 90, A long time resident of Mount Lebanon on Sunday, November 20, 2016. Son of the late John and Harriet (Dailey) Ward; brother of Mary H. Drane, Patricia E. Mundy, Paul B. Ward, James “Drew” Ward and the late Dr. Stephen D. “Lee” & John J. “Jack” Ward;  also survived by many nieces and nephews. Anthony graduated in 1944 from Mount Lebanon High School, he attended the University of Pittsburgh for three years after his war service, then became a copy/editor at the Pittsburgh Press for 42 years, retiring as assistant editor of the editorial page in 1991. In World War II he was an 18 year-old combat infantryman in Alsace, the Rhineland and Bavaria with the 12th Armored Division, which fought to liberate Nazi death camps near Landsberg. He was one of three brothers who served in the war. Friends will be welcomed at LAUGHLIN MEMORIAL CHAPEL 222 Washington Road, Mount Lebanon MONDAY 2-4 & 6-8 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Saint Anne Church Tuesday morning at 9:30. Interment Queen of Heaven Cemetery.
