Mildred Jane (Smith) Riggs

Passed away on Sunday, July 2, 2017 at John Muir Hospital in Walnut Creek, CA after a short illness. She leaves behind her husband of 65 years,  Lloyd D. Riggs; son Patrick of Walnut Creek, CA and daughter in law Jennifer Riggs; grandson’s Ian, Michael and Casey Riggs all of Walnut Creek, CA. Mildred was born in Monongalia County, West Virginia to Arlie and Merle Smith on August 20, 1933. She graduated from the University High School in Morgantown, W. VA. And was thereafter employed as a secretary for the President of the local Coca Cola Bottling facility. Mildred came to California in 1995 and worked as a secretary for an executive of General Foods Corporation in San Leandro, CA. She retired from active employment in 1968 and became a full time homemaker. Mildred was later employed as a secretary to her husband Lloyd in the family business in Concord, CA. Mildred’s hobbies were quiliting, antiques and traveling. She and Lloyd spent 30 years traveling across the United States with the Antique Automobile Club of America. She participated in Class Judging with the AACA and was a Senior Master Judge. She was awarded the Samuel Bailey Award in 2002 for her exempliery work as an AACA Judge. Mildred will be buried in the family plot at Bethel Presbyterian Cemetery in Bethel Park, PA. Plans for a memorial service are incomplete and will be announced later.
