Mary F. (Fox) Griffin

 Age 91, of Mt. Lebanon, on Tuesday, July 26, 2016. Born and raised in Marshall, IL, daughter of the late Claude and Pearl (Weir) Fox, Mary earned her BA as a Food Economist from the University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign in 1946. During her senior year, she was introduced to a young Army Corporal, the late John P. Griffin (Jack), who was stationed at a nearby airbase. Four years later they married and made their home in the Pittsburgh area. As a resident of Mount Lebanon for more than 60 years, Mary retained her mid-western values of hard work, while volunteering for many of the community and school district committees including functions such as the Women’s Club Fashion Shows, the High School Prom and the Snowball Dances. Loving mother of Janet Griffin (Jeff Hunter) of Des Moines, Iowa and David (Linda) Griffin of Bethel Park; loving grandmother of Emily and Sarah Hunter and Matt Griffin; sister of Lois (the late Lindel) Barnes and the late Ralph “Dean” (Ellen) Fox; sister in law of Mae Rose King (Mark Kenny) and Jim (the late Peggy) Griffin; also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Family wishes to thank the wonderful staff at Asbury Heights for their compassion over the past 3 years, along with the Allegheny Home Care Hospice for providing comfort and care in her final days. Friends will be welcomed at Laughlin Memorial Chapel, 222 Washington Road, Mt. Lebanon, Thursday 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00pm. Services and interment in Mount Lebanon Cemetery will be private.
