Michael Pohorily

Age 91, originally from Philadelphia, went home to the Lord on Friday, June 26, 2015.  Born July 18, 1923 in Philadelphia, PA, he was a lifelong resident there until August, 2012, when he moved to Pittsburgh to be near his daughter.  Loving husband of the late Mary Maude (Hanig) Pohorily, who passed away in April, 2002.  Now they are together having their Rum & Cokes, celebrating their reunion and heavenly reward.  Beloved father of Michael James of Philadelphia and Kathleen Ann (David) Drapala of Pittsburgh.  Proud grandfather of Lauren (Joe) Burfitt of London, England, and Julie Drapala of New York, NY.  “Pop” was inspirational in his grandchildren’s lives and treasured their visits and discussions.  He was overjoyed with the news of becoming a Great Grandfather later this year to “Baby Burfitt”.  Preceded in death by his sisters, Anastasia and Sophie; survived by his brother John and sister Olga.  Michael served in the Army in Hawaii and on Saipan, where he met his beloved wife, Mary, after which they enjoyed 51 years of marriage.  He loved to travel in the U.S. and abroad and enjoyed classical music, woodworking and painting.  Friends and family will be welcome at Laughlin Memorial Chapel, 222 Washington Road, Mt. Lebanon, PA (412-531-5100) on Monday 1-4 and 6-8 p.m.  Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Anne Church, 400 Hoodridge Drive, Castle Shannon, Tuesday morning at 9:30 a.m.  Interment will be in Philadelphia, PA.  Special thanks to the devoted staff who cared for him in Personal Care at The Baptist Homes, Castle Shannon and Family Hospice & Palliative Care.
