John and I were best friends through grade and high school. We played together, got in way too much trouble together, but most of all laughed together. We both thought we were the funniest people on the planet.
John was always a little bit better at most things than I. Grades a little higher, able to shoot a basket a bit better, able to get a date with the prettier girl… it was difficult trying to keep up with him. John was no saint, but I so admired his character. As corny as it sounds, he helped me reach a little higher.
When John married Joyce, I knew he’d won the marriage lottery. And he was always so proud of Amy and Adam. I’d push him, “Come on Fehr, they can’t be that perfect,” but in his eyes, they were.
Tonight, I am remembering a hundred stories from way back when, and am so sorry I cannot laugh and reminisce with him. Our lives will be much emptier without our friend, John.
